New Media Ventures
Seeking: Mid-level Communications Contractor
Skills Needed: Writing, Graphic Design, Social Media
Start time: January
New Media Ventures (NMV) is looking to hire a multi-faceted communications professional who can design and implement creative and cohesive communications tactics. This contractor will be responsible for helping to raise the profile of the organization, our work, and our portfolio companies to attract high-quality investments, grow our fundraising and partnerships, and influence the fields of philanthropy and impact investing, particularly in progressive and BIPOC communities. This is a 6-month contract with the expectation of 40 - 60 hours per month.
To be successful, this person must be sure-footed in their abilities, take direction well, and be highly creative and collaborative in their approach. They must also speak our language – democracy, social impact, and investing – to be able to authentically represent our “voice”.
The ideal contractor will also have a track record of driving successful communications efforts in an entrepreneurial environment and is skilled in both writing and design. Most importantly, this person will have the innate drive to look for any and all ways to efficiently amplify the impact of the organization through our communication tools.
About the Organization
New Media Ventures invests in entrepreneurs and activists wrestling with the biggest challenges facing our democracy, and we apply the tools and frameworks of venture capital to the problem of building progressive power. We have invested in nearly 140 startups over 13 years including widely recognized pillars of the progressive movement like Vote.org, Blavity, Swing Left, PushBlack, ActBlue, Hustle, Mijente, Sister District, Daily Kos, Prism, Ballot Ready, and more.
NMV is a pro-Black, women-led mix of Millennials and Gen Z’s. We are a small, gritty group of impact investors who deeply love our work and our role in shifting society to work for more people. We strive to cultivate a low-ego, high-performance culture and a flexible work environment that centers joy and impact. We are looking for a self-motivated, independent contractor who is diligent about their work, thinks outside of the box, and is bold in their love for culture and community – basically, someone who wants to do dope shit with dope people and takes tremendous pride in their work.
