In 2024, New Media Ventures deepened its investment in the future of inclusive, ethical, and community-driven media. From amplifying Latine voices across the South and Southwest to advancing equitable AI and creative technology, this year’s investments reflect our commitment to innovation that strengthens democracy and centers the communities most impacted by systemic inequities.
2024 Latine Voices for Democracy Media Accelerator
(in partnership with Valiente Action Fund)
Since 2010, NMV has invested in nearly 150 early-stage progressive entrepreneurs moving our democracy forward. Our 2023 Voices for Democracy Open Call revealed how critical trusted local media is to protecting democratic participation—especially for overlooked communities in Southern and battleground states.
Building on that momentum, and at a time when so many vital Latine media outlets are being shuttered, New Media Ventures (NMV) and Valiente Action Fund (VAF) are proud to announce the inaugural cohort of the 2024 Latine Voices for Democracy (LV4D) Media Accelerator.
Together we are accelerating Latino media and narrative projects in key states with fast-growing Latino populations across the South and Southwest—Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, and Florida.
Our democracy is under assault by a network of media outlets and influencers who intentionally distort reality and misinform Americans. As large publishers retreat from Latino-centric storytelling, NMV’s LV4D accelerator directly counters that trend by strengthening transformative, community-based media in the regions where democracy is most at risk.
These 10 incredible outlets are trusted messengers meeting their communities where they are—with messages that deeply resonate and inspire civic participation.

2024 Summer Investments
We’re proud to announce four new investments and grants into organizations using technology to enhance progressive messaging, preserve overlooked histories, build a just future, and mitigate AI’s risk of harm.
Chorus AI (for-profit)
What they do: Chorus AI helps organizations centralize information—news, social media, and documents—and create content in their unique voice, from grant proposals to fundraising emails, in minutes.
How you can help: Chorus AI is looking to work with nonprofits, foundations, and social enterprises with budgets over $500K.
Kinfolk Tech Foundation (nonprofit)
What they do: Kinfolk Tech harnesses emerging technologies to empower stories of Black, Brown, and Queer communities through imagination and play. They create digital monuments and archives preserving histories often excluded from major data models.
How you can help: They’re fundraising from foundations and individual donors and seeking support for creative governance structures that bridge nonprofit and for-profit models.
AI4Abolition (nonprofit)
What they do: AI4Abolition promotes AI literacy and develops open-source, community-led products advancing an abolitionist, equitable vision for technology. They prioritize serving Black and Indigenous women and youth leaders, ensuring AI is a tool for liberation, not oppression.
How you can help: AI4Abolition is raising $100K in grants to finish out the year and is seeking connections to BIPOC technical talent in full-stack development, ML engineering, or security systems.
Data Nutrition Project (nonprofit)
What they do: Data Nutrition Project (DNP) builds standardized “Nutrition Labels” for datasets—helping practitioners understand whether data is “healthy” for AI models, improving transparency and accountability in data science.
How you can help: Connect DNP with organizations or funders interested in operationalizing ethical data certifications.
